The series of writings that I compile here is a collection of stories of my experience or career journey, in which I have experienced many processes managed by various kinds of Management and Leadership systems practiced by the Company and superiors in their daily work operations.
There are Management Systems and Leadership Models that are very effective in driving the Quality of Performance towards the Company's Business Targets, but there are also Management and Leadership Models that are less effective in producing Performance.
I have even experienced being managed with unorganized management and leadership. From my long career journey, I noted a lot of Tacit Knowledge that I have collected. The Tacit Knowledge that I have collected includes various inferences on what is effective and ineffective.
All my inferences are based on:
1. Explicit Knowledge from various learning resources
2. Answers to a series of questions: "Who - What - Where - Why - How - When" to what is decided to be implemented in the company.
3. The fact that everything that is in the process of activity must have a "MOST INTENTIONAL GOAL" that is being achieved or there is a "CAUSE" that underlies it to have to process activities.
4. Always look for answers to the repetition of the question sentence: "Why this - Why that"; "Why not this - why not that". And so on. The point is that all the Tacit Knowledge that I collect comes from a very strong curiosity about what is going on around me and what is the REASON for all the activity processes.
5. There are many books written by authors from abroad and I agree that these books are very high masterpieces. And until now it has become the MAIN GUIDE BOOK to be applied in various companies. I once pondered that when the authors compiled the book, they must have been inspired by the environmental conditions and situations they experienced or saw. My simple question is have they ever understood the situations and conditions that exist in Indonesia with various diversities and regulations that are of course different?
From here I conclude that the theories, models, concepts they find are very true, but the truth is a form of SOLUTION to answer the challenges they experience in the current situation and conditions in that environment. So, for Indonesia, the theories, concepts or models that they come up with in their books must be adapted to various aspects of the Indonesian environment.
I experienced firsthand how company leaders with strong discipline followed What the Book Says in implementing the Management Model in the company. And.... the results are not optimal when measured from the movement of its Business Mission KPIs and data on the development of HR quality (Knowledge, Skills and Attitude) and the quality of its organizational work. My conclusion is that the Concepts, Theories or Models of Management, Leadership, Organization Development that they present through their books must be adapted to the conditions and environmental situation in Indonesia in terms of regulations, cultural diversity, and so on.
We, Indonesians, know Indonesia best. So we are the ones who know best how to make adjustments from all these management models to be applied in Indonesia.
And even we, Indonesians who know the most about Indonesia, have the opportunity to come up with theories, concepts or management models that are suitable for Indonesia based on many sources of discourse or inspiration that can be taken from various world-class books. Bravo Indonesia.....!
